Honourable Chief Minister of Tamilnadu Dr.J.Jayalalithaa on Monday announced that memorials for freedom fighter Shri.Singaravelar and one of the leaders of the Dravidian movement Shri.Jeevarathinam would be set up at Foreshore Estate and a statue of Chidambaranathan, who strove hard for the merger of Kanyakumari district with Tamil Nadu, would be installed in Kaliyakkavilai.

Making a suo motu statement in the State Assembly, the CM said Singaravelar was born in Mylapore on February 18, 1860, and took part in the freedom struggle. Later, he chaired the first conference of the Communist Party in Kanpur and worked for the welfare of the working masses.
